Skaters participating in our program will develop various skills
that will assist them in their overall proficiency as a speed
skater. We’ll perform numerous
drills
and skaters will be critiqued on their ability to successfully
incorporate good technique while negotiating these drills.
Skills are assessed using several factors: continuity,
adequateness, anticipation, etc… all of which are relevant for
an effective execution of a technical movement.
While each skater might incorporate a different technique or
“form” while performing a particular drill, repetitive
satisfactory execution of the drill will refine the level of
skill in which a skater is ultimately able to achieve. In
layman’s terms, skaters will learn different drills and
techniques and skating habits that will enable them to
successfully refine their skill level. Through repetition,
constructive criticism, trail and error, the skater will get
better and better as time progresses.
