Aug 26th -  Are you a first-year skater with the team? If so, we have great news! The South Florida Speed League has included a  new "Rookie" Division just for 1st year skaters. This Division is open to any new skater who has been competing for less than 1 year. Any skater who has not skated a League meet prior to Feb 1, 2008 is eligible to compete in this Division. This Division will also have their own Regional Championship Division at the Southern Regional Championships... winning the Regional Championship competing against other 1st-year skaters within your age Division would be a great goal to train for this year!

Sep 5th -  New Profiles for 2009

It's that time of year - time to update your skater profiles. Take a look at the new format here then go ahead and email a head shot, one action pic, your goals this year and any accomplishments if you'd like (your accomplishments don't have to be limited to speed skating).

Sep 20th -  Cypress Gardens Outdoor Race

The Cypress Gardens 10k race is just around the corner! There will be a group of Team FAST skaters skating at this event. This event is a great opener for the new season so why not come on out and give it your best? Read the event schedule here. Register online here. The registration fee is $20 online. If you do not register online (deadline is Oct 9th) and plan to register the day of the event, you will need to contact race officials regarding any additional fees, registration deadlines, etc. You can find more information about the Inline Skate Series here.

Sep 24th -- Hotel information added at the bottom of the Ft Pierce meet info page here.

Sep 28th -  All Entries Have Been Turned In

As of Sep 20th no host hotel or outdoor race distances have been communicated. Remember, you must have a valid 2008-2009 USARS Amateur Card before you can skate the Meet. Get with your coach and they will help you with the application. Those who do not have an Amateur Card by race day will be required to purchase a 1-day card at the Meet. You can scroll farther down this page to read more about the Amateur Card application process.

For more information about the meet, Click Here

Aug 26th - USARS has changed the time period for which Amateur Cards cover a skater. It will now be Jan thru Dec. The 2008-2009 USARS Amateur Card fees for this season are $55. This will cover the skater thru Dec 31, 2009 (1.5 years). After Dec 2009 the Amateur Cards will then go back to a 1-year coverage time period. Team FAST skaters should go ahead and download the Amateur Card form, complete it and turn it in to their coach as soon as possible this month. Remember, the first League Meet (Oct 5th) registration fees are due to your coach by Sep 29th. I would recommend that all the skaters get their amateur cards taken care of and paid for at the Vero kickoff Sep 14th. This way all the $$$ doesn't hit you at the end of the month.

Sep 12th -

Hope everyone is making plans to attend the season kickoff this Sunday! Practice will start at 10:00 at the Vero rink, followed by a team meeting, and then we will all head to Jaycees Beach for a cookout! You don't want to miss this! Lots of information about the new season ...If you have equipment that you want to sell or trade be sure to bring it with you! We have quite a few new skaters who are looking to purchase used skates. Do you know somebody who used to speed skate and they are thinking about getting back into the sport? Or someone who has thought about giving it a try but hasn't made that first step yet? Invite them to the kickoff! There won't be a charge for practice but we will be taking donations from anyone who wants to contribute to help out with the hamburger and hotdog cost. See you there!!!

Aug 31st  - "Keep up with the results of the World Championships with Team FAST! We're going to keep you updated with all that's happening in Spain while Team USA prepares to bring home the gold!"

Coach Steve

Aug 31st -  The Lake City Team FAST Kickoff was great!  Approximately 25 skaters and parents showed up for Team FAST's Lake City Kickoff this past Saturday. The Lake City group is comprised of 100% Rookie skaters! This will add another 20 +/- carded skaters to Team FAST this season! The Lake City rink was very clean and will be a great host for the February SFSL League meet this season. Coach Steve (Jax) ran the kickoff practice with Coaches Bonnie, Steve and Becky Hanna all contributing. This will be coach Bonnie's "home team rink." We're going to see a lot of talent come out of this rink this season! If you're ever in the area, plan to stop by for a practice.

From all of Team FAST, we want to give Lake City a BIG WELCOME to the team and the SFSL!

March 9th - Danny Dannels completed his 2600+ mile journey from California to Florida last night around 10:45pm. Danny was gracious enough to allow a few Team FAST skaters to accompany him during his last 10 miles. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of someone's personal quest of such magnitude.

While the feat itself set a new world record (Danny beat the previous record by almost a full day) I believe I speak for all the Team FAST skaters that were present when I say that Danny's inspiration, character and honest demeanor was equally as impressive... perhaps even more. While Dan insists he just a "normal guy," to those that were present at the finish line he's more than that. His accomplishment has fueled the desire for others to pursue their goals.

Thanks for the memories Danny. You not only achieved a personal goal but you have impacted others in a positive way. You've passed a baton onto others who now have the desire to achieve the same level of greatness.

Good luck to you and Hilary.

(Read more about Danny's quest here and here.)

March 3rd - Tampa Classic info has been uploaded. This is the last big meet in our area before Regionals so if you plan to skate Regionals you really need to do this meet. Practice and 3-person relays will be Thursday evening (3/20), Elite and Pro divisions and relays will be Friday (3/21), remaining Elite relays, Novice Division and Novice Relays will be Saturday (3/22) and outdoor will be at the Raymond James Stadium on Sunday.

March 7th - Have you been following the Guinness Book of World Record attempt by Danny Dannels? If not, you can catch up on the excitement here and here. Right now he is 85 miles from the finish at Jacksonville Beach and held off by thunderstorms. I think he should reach Jacksonville tomorrow and some of the Team Fast skaters are going to try to meet up with him along the way to pace with him and show our support. If you would like to join us contact me so I can give you the details as I get them. We were thinking he would arrive today but with the weather acting up it will most likely be Saturday morning.

Oct 15th - Now that the first League Meet is over, it's back to the business of training... Suppose you entered, raced and did not do as well as you wanted to. What can you do? Use this checklist I've created to evaluate your performance so that you can make improvements before your next race!

Oct 15th - When's the last time any team entered 53 skaters in a League Meet? Yesterday! Keep your eyes on Team FAST... our goal is to enter over 100 skaters at a single meet in 2008! Kudos' to all the coaches working in unison with the rink operators to recruit new speed skaters!

Everyone seemed to have a great time at our first League Meet yesterday. I believe a little over 1/2 of our entries yesterday consisted of Novice skaters competing for their 1st meet! Everyone represented the team well, the coaches worked well together (under Tori and Maria's supervision of course) and all left motivated for the next race event!

If you have any pics of the event you would like to see posted, email them to us.

Oct 7th - Congrats to all the Team FAST skaters who raced in the Publix Cypress Gardens 10k today. FAST's Michael Taylor grabbed the top spot finishing 1st overall. James Legier finished 3rd overall. Many more of our skaters placed in their respective Divisions. See placements here.

Oct 9th - Due to the large number of entries - GO TEAM FAST!! - doors will open at 6am and the racing will begin at 7am.

If you are coming in on Saturday make sure you get to session at Skate Factory at least for a little while that evening so you can meet the other Team Fast skaters and coaches that you don't normally see. We will be taking pics for the website during session also. Remember, you don't want to skate a strenuous practice the day before the meet but its fine to skate a little at session the night before....as long as you don't over do it and you get to bed by 10pm.

Oct 8th - Team FAST has a record 52 skaters signed up for the Ft Pierce League Meet this weekend! We've prepared some pre-race tips for the skaters and parents. For those that plan to arrive Saturday, why don't you join us? There's a group of us planning to get together... all Team FAST members are welcome!

Oct 6th - Team FAST Skaters we need your help! We need quite a few loaner uniforms for the first meet on October 14th. Dig through your drawers and find the ones you have outgrown...call your friends that  are no longer skating and see if you can borrow their old uniform for the day. Its okay if its not the current Team Fast design...any uniform that says Team Fast is fine. Some of you are not able to skate the first meet, how about letting one of the new skaters use your uniform? Click here to see what sizes are needed.

Sep 5th - One of our Team FAST skaters, James Legier traveled to compete in the US 10k in Atlanta this past weekend. The hills on this course make it one of the toughest 10k's anywhere. James placed 6th in the 15-19 age group and 16th overall... good job for a 1st-time run! The next outdoor race (5.7 miles) is at Cypress Gardens October 7th... let's get all the Team FAST skaters we can to this event!
