Our coaches believe that
consistently successful coaching is usually the
result of a team's or skater's success in the
preparation phase - all those hours of practice and
training. An equally important factor is a coach's
ability to instill and inspire, in a nurturing
environment, winning traits in skaters: enthusiasm,
courage, compassion, tenacity, desire, belief,
selflessness, and patience. These qualities
ultimately become the glue that binds a team, the
spark that ignites the spirit and passion within the
skaters, enabling them to sustain high levels of
performance during their competitive years and
beyond.
Skaters (and the families that
support them) are now attracted to coaches who can
treat them with respect, care, concern, and
compassion, as individuals who have worth outside
the skating arena. Team Fast's coaches emphasize
personal improvement, preparation and the quality of
play in addition to favorable outcomes. Our coaches
are passionate, selfless, and focused on the good of
those they lead. We don't ask our coaches to change
their coaching styles. Instead, we ask them to look
for ways to instill these key concepts and creative
methods into their existing repertoire.
In addition to meeting at
combined practices, Team Fast coaches meet weekly
online in a chat group developed specifically for
the purpose of discussing issues that affect team
skaters, training, upcoming events, etc. This weekly
collaboration between the different rinks allows our
coaching staff to maintain program consistency between the
different locations so that we are all progressing
simultaneously together.
We believe that what we achieve
in the sport of speed skating is directly related to
the depth of our coaching character - the way we
coach, and whether we lead from the heart. We are
committed to our skaters, the parents who support
them, and the integrity of our program.
