“Strength does not come from physical capacity.
It comes
from an indomitable will.”
What is C2C?
C2C is an
acronym that stands for “Choose to Commit.” The C2C program was
designed to begin slowly changing the culture of the team to be
more competitive… a change in the behavior of the skaters, the
intensity of their training, the life styles choices they make,
etc. The C2C concept emphasizes athletic continuous self
improvement using science-based training methods where results
are measurable. The training program pinpoints each skater’s
individual starting point and prescribes training that will
allow the skater to progress quickly. The program is presented
in a way that’s easy to understand and simple to follow. The
program is structured, progressive and addresses all the pieces
of the training puzzle, fit together to form the big picture.
Why C2C?
It’s simple…
to bring structure and organization that advances performance to
the team. The C2C concept will help the coaches change the
“culture” of the team so that we have more skaters concentrating
on competitive goals that reach beyond Regional competition. It
is structured to focus primarily on behavioral goals at first
(proper eating, rest & recovery, disciplined training habits,
etc.). It’s only after a skater is disciplined to commit to the
basics that he or she will be able to handle the demands and
stress placed on them physically and mentally through
participation in later stages of the C2C program. The cultural
“atmosphere” of the program emphasizes integrity, teamwork;
cohesiveness and fair play… inclusion of these traits are
designed to teach skaters those character traits that will
propel their success far beyond our sport in the greater game of
life.

Who is the
Program For?
Any Team Fast
skater can participate provided they (and their parents) agree
to the programs guidelines. The initial athletic assessment will
determine each skater’s “beginning point.” It is an aggressive
program designed to provide exceptional results in a short
period of time. Skaters who complete all three phases will
qualify to wear the new Team Fast Elite uniform and will also
earn their Level 1 Achievement designation.
“Dream big in the long run; think realistically in the short
run.
It
all begins with a dream for the future, and it all happens with
what you do today.”
What Can the
Skaters Expect?
To get in the
best shape they’ve ever been in. To develop skills,
coordination, strength, flexibility and speed they’ve never
realized they could achieve. To sharpen their knowledge of their
sport, to discover their physical abilities, smart nutritional
habits and to develop a disciplined behavior that causes them to
make good life choices. They will learn to develop their ability
to cope with stressful situations. There is a special emphasis
on “toughness training.” Some of the mental toughening
techniques taught include:
-
Methods
for overcoming stress and fear
-
Recovering
from injuries and unexpected situations
-
Peaking
for important competitions
The toughness
training is designed to allow you to perform at the very top of
your game – every time. You’ll learn how to trigger your “Ideal
Performance State” on demand and gain the heightened physical,
mental and emotional mind-body toughness that is vital to
success.
How Does the
Program Achieve These Results?
Skaters will
be required to participate in structured training in which they
will be required to provide feedback via knowledge and
performance testing. Instruction will take place during indoor
and outdoor practices and in a “field” classroom setting. The
program will provide an extensive variety of different exercises
and drills that will take time to master. The program will
continually challenge the skater’s muscles into new growth using
muscle confusion.
The problem
with most speed skating programs is the lack of a structured,
progressive approach. Most coaches teach a few skating drills
and simply increase the volume as the year progresses. This
typically leads to the skater hitting a “plateau” where the body
becomes accustomed to the routines, resulting in diminished
effectiveness. C2C avoids the plateau effect by keeping the body
guessing… the more we confuse the muscles, the harder the body
has to work to keep up; the more variety we put into the
off-skates workout, the better and faster the results will be.
C2C is a
“complete” speed skating training program. IT IS NOT EASY. There
is no compromise in what’s required of the skaters. Skaters who
choose to commit to the program and successfully complete it
will have earned their level 1 Achievement status and will be
eligible to wear the new Team Fast Elite uniform.
The 90-day C2C
Program is primarily designed to build a base upon
which you can apply advanced training without the
fear of injury. It is designed to
strengthen the total body while conditioning the
aerobic and anaerobic support systems. It is not
designed to make you a "super skater." However, once
you've successfully accomplished the 90-day C2C
training program, you will be able to handle the
advanced training that is designed to build speed
skating sport-specific speed, endurance and power.
Skaters who have successfully passed the program
have realized a minimum overall fitness improvement
of 42%!

“A lot of skaters spend
time thinking about what they’re doing. With C2C,
every day when you go out,
you’ll know exactly what to do. You may not have
control over your genetics,
but you do have complete control over your level
of self-knowledge, and
self-knowledge in this arena is very powerful. Collecting
information about yourself
and becoming aware of what is happening to your body are
key instruments in
your fitness tool kit”
“Now’s
the time to leave your past behind, and be all that you
can
be. Don’t let anything get in your way… just do it!”
