Training 2011
Last
season we had a successful year ending with a lot of
personal best times, numerous Regional medalists and
quite a few National placements... with one National
record broken! Congratulations to all the skaters who
worked so hard. So, you wondering what training will be
like this season? Read On...
The program we developed last year "C2C" or "Choose to
Commit" was a great success. We had quite a few skaters
complete this rigorous program earning their new
uniforms while setting a number of personal bests. This
season we will run only 1 C2C Cycle and it will begin in
January. This is a great program for skaters who have
been on the team for at least a season... if you'd like
to know more about this program just see your coach.
Aside from C2C, we will concentrate on working closely
with all of our new skaters this season... between all
the rinks we have somewhere in the neighborhood of close
to 50 1st year skaters!
Beyond C2C
One of the primary goals of the C2C program was to teach
skaters how to discipline themselves to train hard on
their own. I am happy to say this part of the program
was a success for many... it's nice to see skaters
cross-training on their own with weekly 50 and 100-mile
bike rides over the summer! It's precisely this type of
discipline and dedication it will take to advance to the
next level.
For those skaters who completed C2C last season and/or
those who are looking to compete at the National or
International level this season, we will introduce
"Beyond C2C." I'll forewarn you, there is nothing easy
about it and if you're not serious and able to
discipline yourself (you know who you are), there's no
need to waste your time by beginning this program only
to drop out. This IS an advanced training program that
will involve a LOT of coach Steve's time - I will not
waste my time with any skater who is only partially
committed. If you're not committed 100%, you need not
consider this program. If you don't have the proper
training gear you will not be able to participate in
this program. It is an advanced program and it will
require special training gear. I will personally lead
the training for most of this program. We will hole
"tryouts" for entry into this program and I will allow
skaters to join throughout the season provided they
progress enough to qualify for entry into the program.
Who this program is for:
-
Advanced skaters as determined by their respective
coaches
-
Disciplined skaters - if you can't even complete ALL
the drills at practice, don't even consider trying
out for this program
-
Dedicated skaters - this program WILL take up quite
a bit of your time. If you aren't able to make this
program a priority aside from school, don't consider
trying out for this program... school should always
come first.
-
Skaters who are able to acquire the proper training
equipment and resources - We realize not everyone is
able to acquire the latest and greatest training
gadgets... while that's not what we expect, this
program WILL require that you are able to acquire
certain training gear such as a road bike,
slideboard, dumbbells, etc.
Who this program is not for:
-
Those who can't commit to ALL the training sessions
and practices. 90% is not good enough. We realize
things come up and you will miss a training session
from time to time. However, if you have other things
going on that will require you to miss scheduled
training sessions, you will need to discuss this
with coach Steve before you will be allowed to
participate. Be advised, if you begin the program
and you fail to make enough practices to maintain a
measurable improvement, you will be dropped.
-
Those who can't train in inclement weather. Don't
expect just because it's 100 degrees or 20 degress
outside or if it's raining that you won't be training... you will.
